Fishing Uncover the Salmon Capital of the World

Explore the legendary Vancouver Island salmon fishing in renowned Campbell River, “The Salmon Capital of the World,” at the doorstep of one of the world's most impressive salmon migrations. Set off from Painter's Lodge resort and fish the waters of Discovery Passage with an experienced guide for your very own Vancouver Island adventure.

GUIDED SALMON FISHING

We offer an early morning, a mid-day and an afternoon departure time. Exact departure time varies, depending on the season. Please contact us for full details.

  • Available 6:00 a.m. - Noon and 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. daily
  • Enjoy longer distance trips to places like Chatham point, Ripple Point, Blind Channel, Davis Point and Denham Bay. The Outrages reach some of the best Chinook areas and avoid the crush of boats that descend on the closer sockeye/pink salmon hotspots. There will be plenty of time to stock up on sockeye and pinks and travel further afield to target Chinook.
  • Autumn sees plenty of great fishing with excellent runs of Coho and Chum salmon. A 20-foot boat helps smooth out the ride in the slightly choppier autumn waters.

20-foot Boston Whaler Outrages versus 17-foot Boston Whalers

  • 150 hp motor: The more powerful motor allows for a higher top speed, meaning Outrages can access remote fishing locations that we previously didn't reach.
  • Increased deck space: room to stretch on the longer ride
  • Comfortable seating for up to three guests and a guide
  • Center console: provides dry storage for items such as lunches and extra clothing

Tyee Fishing at Paniter's Lodge

Painter’s Lodge offers traditional Tyee fishing from classic rowboats in the Tyee Pools. Anglers who catch a Tyee become members of the Tyee Club of British Columbia. It is open to any anglers who want to test their skill at sport fishing. The rower will slip the boat into the currents and eddies of the pool, allowing the angler to stay focused on the action of the lure. Any change in the beat of the rod tip will signify a strike. It is then up to the angler to set the hook and battle the powerful Chinook to the boat single-handedly. If the fish is successfully boated and weighs over 30 pounds, the catch is recorded and the angler has earned a membership in the Tyee Club.
Tyee Rowing happens every year from July 15 to September 15 at Painter's Lodge. Trips are available at sunrise and sunset. Contact one of our reservation coordinators or register with the Painter’s Lodge Marine Center to try your hand at Tyee fishing this season and experience salmon fishing as pure as it gets.
