There has been a great mash up of salmon coming in to the docks this week. Lots of Pinks, Sockeye and of course the Chinooks coming in all day long. Seeing Sockeye is open for a limited time period the guides are mainly fishing for the red meat. They are going in both directions; North and South depending on the weather/tides to nab their slabs.
The Lure du Jour is pink gear for the sockeye. According to Randy McKinnon the secret to sockeye success is the 3 S’s. Slow, straight, sparse. Troll slowly in a straight line and use a hoochie “squirt” with every second leg plucked off for a sparse presentation.
Big exciting news for the Tyee Rowers of Campbell River, a 54 lbs. Chinook salmon was caught this morning at 5:50 am just of the Tyee Spit by a Mr. Mike Netzel.
