Dock Talk

Mid-week Magic

Painter's Lodge and April Point Resort & Spa - July 11, 2012

We had 30 guests go fishing yesterday morning alone and they all came back with fish, most over 20 lbs. One Tyee at 35 lbs. belonged to an April Point  guest – congratulations, Brian Harkness! April Point now holds the title of largest fish of the season (so far). The mid-tide blew crew and guests away by claiming three Tyee. The Painter’s dock became crowded with guests as that air horn just seemed to continuously blow. (It’s fair to say at least a couple of those watching the action booked fishing for the next day.) Many crew members who have worked here for years say they have never seen that many Tyee come in on one tide. Close to a dozen fishing boats were out again today on both the morning and mid-day tides and many came back early with their limits.

During dinner in the April Point Dining Room the Thieven Brothers entertained a large audience for Jazz at The Point. What a difference a week makes; last Tuesday it was about 13 degrees and raining cats and dogs, while this week guests soaked up gorgeous rays on the deck and watched the sun slowly sink behind Vancouver Island.

Yesterday’s wildlife tour spotted a very large grizzly bear on Sonora Island – one of the largest our zodiac guide, Scotty, says he has ever seen. Today our whale watch tour travelled north to Robson Bite where they spotted approximately a dozen orcas. Lucky for one family visiting from Switzerland who happened to be on both tours!

See you in a few,
