Great Early Season Fishing at Painter's Lodge

Painter's Lodge - March 29, 2002

Guests have been catching Chinook almost every day. Average size is between 8 to 18 lbs. Some guests have opted for catch and release Coho on light gear and have had a ball!

Exciting news is that we are presently observing a herring spawn right in Campbell River for the first time in over a decade. Spawns have been in Hornby Island area last few years, so it is exciting to see this here. What of course this means, is that in a few months there will be tons of herring in our area slowing down the migration of salmon runs through the Discovery Passage. The salmon will stay here and eat, which translates into excellent fishing.
