I’m not sure words can accurately describe how the fishing has been in Campbell River lately, but I’ll try.
Let’s put it this way: The top story on BCTV news the other night was about the largest Sockeye run in nearly 50 years coursing through the Discovery Passage. Couple that with our busiest time of the year as far as fishing trips go, and wham! Stars colliding! Gong show!
We’re still reeling from the last 10 days here, and the fishing is continuing to be excellent. Our senior guides could hardly believe how good the fishing has been… day after day after day.
We have sent home hundreds of thrilled guests who have plenty of fish to throw in the freezer for the winter. September is looking good too as the Sockeye continue to bite, Chinook are still around, and the Chum fishery is just around the corner. Kick off the end of summer with a fishing trip at Painter’s Lodge. You won’t soon forget it.
Whale watching is still going strong into September as a large super-pod of orcas passed just south of Sayward yesterday. Baby orcas have been jumping and giving our guests quite the show. Pods of 60-80 have been common over the last week or so. Come and see for yourself!
