Roxanne Lakey, fishing with Tom, reeled in this morning’s largest catch which weighed in at 21.6 lbs. Many other anglers brought in similar-sized fish but Roxanne has the daily lead at Painter’s Lodge by mere ounces. 14 boats from Painter’s have departed on the evening tide so Roxanne could still be dethroned. Debbie Meehan holds today’s top spot at April Point thanks to her 15.7 lb. Chinook.
This afternoon Thom Zimmer of Painter’s Lodge, guided by Keith, fished for 8 hours and caught a nice looking Coho that he decided would make a delicious supper for he and his family. Our chef, Kevin Wallace, should be throwing that on the grill for them any minute now.
Our fishing guides are excited about all the migrating fish they’ve been finding up north recently. In fact, as north as Chatham Point is where they are putting most of their focus and it’s paying off because their guests are catching brilliant red Chinook.
Harry Hammer remains our overall August Heat Derby leader. If you haven’t been keeping track, Harry caught his 35.8 lb. beauty on the first day of the derby. A big congratulations to all of our random daily winners thus far as well! Like Dave Kitchen was yesterday, these winners have been rewarded Oak Bay Marine Group 50th Anniversary hats and other special items from our gift shops.
At 1 pm today the Painter’s Lodge managers gathered for their weekly in the Discovery Room and had some unexpected company. Kevin was the one to point out transient orcas swimming north between the two resorts. How’s that for a staff meeting?
See you in a few,
