2014 Painters at Painter's Special Guest Nick Tuele

Nick Tuele has worked in the cultural sector for more than 40 years. He completed 18 of those years at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria where he was Deputy Director and Chief Curator. Since 2000 Tuele has been a consultant and sole proprietor of The Art of Art Consulting, a specialty company that provides tailored solutions to cultural institutions, collectors, and artists.

Tuele curated hundreds of exhibitions of historical and contemporary artists during his tenure at the AGGV and his publications include seminal catalogues such as British Columbia Women Artists, 1885 – 1985 and Printmaking in British Columbia among many others. As well, he has published essays on significant artists including BC Binning, Jack Shadbolt, Ann Kipling and Roberta Sutherland. Tuele’s essay on Fenwick Lansdowne’s portfolio of the Rare Birds of China was recently published in the definitive book on the artist.

Jurying and adjudicating responsibilities include regional work on panels for the Sooke Fine Arts Show, the Campbell River Fine Arts Exhibition, the Sunshine Coast Annual Juried Exhibition and many other local competitions. Provincial work includes panel appearances for the BC Arts Council. Federal work includes appearances on juries for both the Canada Council and the Museums Assistance Programme of the Department of Canadian Heritage. He was recently appointed a juror for the 2014 Sidney Fine Art Show.
