Winter Chinook and Bears!

Painter's Lodge and April Point Resort & Spa - April 25, 2007

Vancouver Island wilflife tourDave reporting from Painter’s Lodge and April Point here. It’s been a blustery couple of weeks with a south east wind blowing through. We’ve been fishing off the south end of Quadra Island and the end of last week produced some winter Springs and the blue backs have been feeding at the back end of Seymor Narrows.

Today’s wildlife tour was exciting. Our guide Jeff spotted two bears and there was a new surge of stellar sea lions. These beasts eat tonnes of salmon so you can smell them from 100 yards away; it’s a pretty distinctive odor.

Lots of birds and bait have been in some of the favorite fishing holes so were waiting with anticipation for the Chinook to come flooding in.
