Our season at Painter’s Lodge has come to a close, and what a fantastic year it was. 2013 was filled with loads of great memories, tons of fun and plenty of big fish! Here’s a recap of some of this year’s best moments:
19th Annual Painters at Painter’s
The 19th Annual Painters at Painter’s was a huge success. BC’s best artists converged on Painter’s Lodge and dazzled guests with their skill. A good time was had by everyone who attended and we’re all eagerly anticipating next year’s 20th event.
Spring Fling Derby
Our fishing season kicked off with our Spring Fling Derby. With a 4 day/3 night fishing package for two at Painter’s Lodge on the line competition was fierce. Patrick Gravely caught a 29.5 pound Chinook in the last week of the derby and held on for the win to cap off an exciting month of fishing.
5 Tyees in Two Days!
Perhaps our most exciting stretch of fishing was the two days in June where we had five Tyees caught! Kelly Wallace, Lee Hawkins, Joe Coburn and Brian Hillman all caught 30+ pound salmon, but it was Kory Makay who came away with the most impressive fish. With the help of his guide Rick Rapps, Kory reeled in a 34.7 pounder that held up as the biggest fish caught at Painter’s Lodge all year.
21st Annual Women’s Derby
One of the highlights of any season at Painter’s Lodge is the annual Women’s Fishing Derby, held every June. It was a truly memorable event, as old friends came together and shared delicious food, lots of laughs and great fishing. In the end it was Lonne Clark who came away the victor with her 22.5 pound salmon.
Weddings at Painter’s Lodge
The beautiful ocean view at Painter’s Lodge makes it one of the favourite spots in Campbell River to tie the knot. It seemed like we had a wedding here almost every weekend, with each celebration being unique and special. It’s truly an honour to host such an important event, and we look forward to hosting more weddings in 2014.
Painter’s Lodge Chum Derby
Our final derby of the year did not disappoint. The lead changed several times, but in the end it was Makoto Mizukami, who came here all the way from Japan, who captured the title. His 17 pound Chum held up as the winner and earned him a 3 day/2 night fishing package at Painter’s Lodge.
Before I sign off for the season I’d like to thank everyone who made this such a great season. To all the people who visited the lodge this year, followed us on Facebook and Twitter and read this blog, thank you for thinking of Painter’s Lodge, and please come back to see us in 2014.
Finally, on behalf of the management team, I’d like to thank all the Painter’s Lodge employees. You are a huge part of our success and we couldn’t do it without you!
See you in 2014!
