I’m happy to now be able to announce all of our final Spring Fling Derby winners. As previously mentioned, our grand prize winner of a 4 day/3 night fishing package for two at Painter's Lodge is Yvette Scott who, with the help of her good friend, Sandy, reeled in a 29 lb. Chinook.
Bruce Willis and his 27.6 lb. Chinook take 2nd place and will be awarded a 3 day/2 night adventure package at April Point Resort & Spa including a choice of two of the following: 4 hour fishing trip, whale watching adventure, $200 spa credit, 18 holes of golf at Storey Creek.
And finally we have a BONUS winner. Every single person who went fishing at Painter’s Lodge or April Point during the derby was entered to win this 3 day/2 night fishing package at the Canadian Princess Resort in Ucluelet, but the one lucky angler is … Louise Sarazin!
Honourable mentions are in order for Lorne Zadarniuk, Orrin Wade, Jodi Mackenzie, Ian Clark, William Tocher, Doug McGrath, Jesse Danchak and Krista Johnson who all reeled in Chinooks over 20 lbs. Way to go, guys!
Transient orca traffic was bumper to bumper today through Discovery Passage. At least a half-dozen of them were first spotted early this morning and then again at lunch time. They seemed to be swimming north one minute then south the next so it was difficult to keep track of where exactly to look for them.
Our guests on the 1:00 pm rapids tour had a hard time concentrating on their pre-tour briefing because of all the wildlife happenings occurring around them. It was low tide so dozens of eagles were feeding out on the sandbar as seals were bobbing around the zodiac and rumors of the aforementioned whales' location circulated on the dock. You didn't have to be out on the water to observe all these things; everyone eating lunch on our deck had a great view, too. In actuality, we are all winners!
See you in a few,
