Make that a strong start to August, too! Harry, guided by Ron C, caught the largest Chinook of the morning tide. His 35.8 lb. Tyee was officially the first of the August Heat Derby… but certainly not the last. Two more anglers blew the air horn this morning but neither fish was quite as large as Harry’s. Harry does, however, now lead the derby after Day 1.
Half a dozen Painters’ guests took in a Whale Watch Adventure guided by Ed this morning. Approximately 30 orcas were seen west of Robson Bight near Hanson Island. The I15s, R4s, A30s, A11s and A36s were all in attendance. Ed suggests this site for anyone interested in the day-to-day activity (including sounds!) of the northern residents.
With tonight’s full moon affecting our tides in a major way, tomorrow’s Rapids Tour should be downright thrilling. The flooding of the narrows will make for one crazy ride.
It’s going to be a good month.
See you in a few,
