Mourning the Loss of A Dear Friend

BC Fishing Resorts and Pedder Bay and - June 28, 2012

To our dear guests and everyone in our Oak Bay Marine Group Family,

As many of you have heard by now, on Sunday we tragically lost our dear friend Grant Holland, who passed away suddenly from a heart attack. We are all in a state of shock. Incredible sadness surrounds us in our offices throughout British Columbia, Oregon, and the Bahamas.

Grant has been part of the Oak Bay Marine Group family since 1987. For many OBMG guests travelling through the South Terminal airport operation to and from our resorts, he was the face of our company. In addition to managing airport operations he also spearheaded our presence in sports and outdoor shows during the off-season, further allowing him to develop and nurture strong relationships with literally thousands of guests.

The entire industry will dearly miss Grant’s knowledge, experience, and ability to deal with pressure situations, as well as his wonderful gift of spinning a great story if you had a chance to catch him “after work.”

He was a friend to all of us, and also to many of our valued guests who will most certainly miss his welcoming face and kind words as they arrived and departed for their trips. No words can express the overwhelming loss that we are feeling. His passion for our industry and his genuine care and concern for our guests (and all of us) will be sadly missed. The South Terminal will not ever be the same without Grant Holland.  Quite frankly, we will never be the same.

The outpouring of sympathy and affection from past and present crew and guests has been extraordinary and deeply touching. One thing agreed upon by all who knew him - Grant was an institution in our industry and a cheerful, caring friend to so many. His stories, laughter, friendship and willingness to help anyone at any time will never be forgotten.  He will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to know him.

We know he would wish us all smooth sailing, safe journeys and tight lines.  For eternity, as we hold his dear memory close to our hearts, we will wish the very same for him.

Cheers Grant - We love you and miss you.
