Hot July Continues

Painter's Lodge and April Point Resort & Spa - July 17, 2006

Vancouver Island salmon fishingThe Chinook fishing at Painter’s Lodge has been stellar as of late, and we’re starting to see some size to them as well. All of the action has been to the north, with traditional hot spots such as Brown’s Bay and Chatham point producing a lot of fish.

The big story over the last couple of days has been Audry and David McMichael’s trip to Hall Point. Audry landed 28 ½ and a 29 lb Chinooks, and David managed to haul in 25 and 18 lb Chinooks. They were fishing between 100 and 140 ft. and all of their fish were caught on anchovies. What a fishing trip!

Other notable fish over the last couple days include Lori McGee’s 26 pounder and Helena Diogo’s 20 pounder. We’re seeing a lot of fish in the mid 20’s range and are all really looking forward to seeing what the next few weeks has in store for us.

Our whale watching tours have been very successful lately, as all of our tours this weekend managed to see whales. This morning our wildlife tour saw 2 black bears on the beach near Chatham point and a buck on Sonora beach. The weather is hot and so is the fishing! See you soon…
