First bear at Painter's Lodge

Painter's Lodge - April 21, 2003

Looks like the hibernation is over for the bears in the area as the Wildlife Adventure Tours have seen their first bear on a recent trip feasting on shellfish on a nearby beach. Still plenty of Stellar Sea Lions, seals, porpoises, and thanks to a massive herring spawn, eagles circling the area and diving for fish. This herring spawn is also great news for fishermen as there's plenty of bait to attract the salmon. There are lots of undersized springs and blueback Coho being released back into the local waters and it seems like the south end of Quadra Island is the place to be for the bigger fish. Stay tuned!
