Another fabulous Women's Derby in Campbell River

Painter's Lodge - June 24, 2003

112 women graced the docks at Painter's Lodge and April Point Resort over the weekend to participate in the 11th annual Women's Derby. Congratulations to Kathy Klaus from Alberta who took home top honours with her 31.5 lb tyee. Following with a very close second was 9-year derby veteran Carrie Scheef of Washington whose 31 lb salmon wasn't quite enough to claim the title. Both ladies brought in these tyee on the last fishing tide, so the derby was down to the wire. All three fishing tides brought plenty of nice catches with most fish averaging the in 15-25 lb range.

Great weather, killer whales breaching and splashing in the waters between the resorts, wild running rapids and plenty of wildlife greeted with women as they enjoyed a weekend of wonderful friends and fabulous fishing. The partied hard at the 70's disco casino night with some women resurrecting party clothes imported from the 70's. In the end, a great time was had by all. See y'all next year!
