Vancouver Island Salmon Fishing

Painter's Lodge and April Point Resort & Spa - May 1, 2007

We’ve seen another push of fish come through Discovery Passage here at Painter’s Lodge. Of note, Dion Lovie caught a beautiful 24 lb. Chinook.

Michael Kay and Don Webster both nabbed 20 lb’ers ,Tyler Hamilton boated a 10 lb Spring and Ray Emery landed an 8½ lb Chinook.

Shelter point—a classic fishing hole—is seeing a lot of undersize Chinook right now. Also worth talking about is the annual release of Chinook smolts from the net pens in town. These young fish are raised in a local hatchery and are held close to town in the ocean. These efforts are really showing improved fishing year after year.
