The last few days at Painter’s Lodge and April Point Resort & Spa have been incredible. Warm sunny weather has brought out the smiles in everyone this week.
We’ve had some success salmon fishing over the last few days, with the Lighthouse proving to be the hotspot. Located on the southern tip of Quadra Island, near Cape Mudge, our guides have put their years of experience to use in finding our guests some fish.
Barry Fergussen caught a 9 lb Chinook yesterday, and Michael McLoughlin landed an 8 ½ lb Chinook. The day before that David Long managed to boat a 10 lb Chinook that ended up being the catch of the day. The guides have been having some success running pink hoochies in deep water.
It was a very successful and exciting few days for our wildlife zodiac tours, with all guests beaming on their way back up the ramp. Yesterday in Nodales Channel the tour saw a large female humpback whale lazing about after seeing a pack of Stellar sea-lions. Earlier this week a transient pod of Orcas was also spotted just south of Johnstone Strait. A small black bear was also seen by a tour a few days ago so plenty of wildlife around!
The coastal and island mountain ranges are still covered with snow, making for some spectacular scenery for all of our marine activities. Our new Discovery Tour has been a huge success, with the highlights being the local shellfish farm and the always breathtaking Mitlenatch Island. Come and see us at Painter’s Lodge and April Point Resort and Spa for the vacation of a lifetime!
