The Chum salmon have definitely arrived and we’ve seen our fair share of big fish this week. The timing couldn’t be better, as our Chum Derby has just kicked off, which has made for a really exciting week of fishing.
Coming into yesterday the leading fish weighed a respectable 15.2 pounds. However, it didn’t take long for that mark to be beaten twice… by the same guest! Jim Smith caught nearly identical Chum with his guide Bruce, reeling in 16.7 and 16.8 pound fish. Not once this year have I seen the first and second spots in a derby held down by the same person. And all in just one fishing trip. What a feat!
Unfortunately for Jim, his mark would only hold up for a couple hours. Makoto Mizukami journeyed to Painter’s Lodge all the way from Japan hoping to land a big fish and he would not be disappointed. With the help of his guide Trevor, Makoto brought in a monster Chum weighing 17 pounds, just edging out Jim for the derby lead.
The Derby lasts until we close on October 14, so there’s still time to get in on the action. And with our Fall Getaway Special available you’ll get a room and a meal for a super low price. So what are you waiting for? Head down to Painter’s Lodge and enter the Derby. The winning angler receives a 3 day/2 night fishing package at Painter’s Lodge, so don’t miss out!
Catch you later,
