Rain began to fall early Tuesday evening marking possibly the first jazz night since June that has had precipitation. Not bad considering our location here on the “Wet Coast”! Anyhow, the liquid sunshine didn’t affect the number of couples, families and friends in the April Point Dining Room who came for our fantastic food and the last performance from the Dave Ashton Trio this season. Guests on a Wildlife Adventure Tour and a Sunset Cruise also had a fabulous time despite the drizzle.
There was a large crowd on the Painter’s Dock upon my return from Jazz night. The evening boats had just returned and catch weigh-ins were underway. 5 Painter’s Lodge boats caught their limit, one of which Steve Brooks— who reeled in 15.7 and 7.7 lb. Chinook—was on. April Point guests Robin and Jeff from Louisville KY also limited out; their largest fish weighed 14 lbs. Makana Laureta of Painter’s had the heftiest Chinook of the evening, which weighed an even 17 lbs., but it wouldn’t rival his brother’s Tyee from that morning. Not surprisingly, most guides have since chosen to head south to fish The Hump after the luck Konane had there.
Judy Johnson of Painter’s Lodge and Robert Theriault of April Point lead the day so far with 19.6 and 22.4 lb. Chinook, respectively. Bring it on, evening tide!
Eric, a long time guide of ours, is one proud papa today as his 12 year old son, Hudson, caught a 42.5 lb. Chinook off Discovery Pier in downtown Campbell River. Congrats to both father and son!
See you in a few,
