For the serious Campbell River angler New Year's Day falls on July 15, for this is the day that the Tyee Pool reopens and the quest to become a member of one of the world's most exclusive clubs begins.
Western writer Zane Gray helped establish the rules for the Tyee Club in 1925. Every year since then anglers from around the world have attempted to land a 30 pound Chinook salmon from a rowboat using nothing but an artificial lure, 20 pound test line, a nine foot rod and a single barbless hook.
Past Tyee Club members include such notables as John Wayne, Harpo Marx, Vincent Price, and the King of Siam. Maybe you could be the next member. But you better get up early because the best action happens at first light. Our three-hour Tyee Pool trips begin at 5:00am. Our 6:00pm evening tides can be equally successful and it is the perfect time to snuggle up with your sweetie and watch the sunset while being rowed along the waterfront by your own personal guide (and getting to fish at the same time, talk about having your cake and eating it too!).
Of course all of our Tyee boats are guided by Transport Canada certified personnel and this year our Tyee boats are sporting brand new Yamaha 6 horsepower motors so your trip to and from the pool will be great.
