Exploring the Islands
Discovery Passage is known as “The Heart of the Pacific Playground”, and for very good reason. From BC salmon fishing to kayaking to ocean rapids and beyond, you’re only limited by your imagination. Guests staying at either Painter’s Lodge or April Point Resort & Spa enjoy full access to the activities of both resorts, joined by a complimentary ten-minute water shuttle across the passage.
Our sister resort, April Point Resort & Spa has single and double ocean kayaks available for rental, as well as guided kayaking excursions available most days. Explore the calm waters of Gowlland Harbour and make friends with curious harbour seals as they peer mischievously up at you. There’s never a shortage of marine birds to observe including majestic blue herons. Travel to April Point via the free water shuttle leaving the Painter's Lodge dock every 15-20 minutes throughout the day.
Bikes and Scooters
Island Life on Quadra Island means taking your time and taking in your surroundings at a laid-back pace. Bicycle and motor scooter rentals at April Point are the perfect way to enjoy the island at your own pace. Make a daytrip of it, and our kitchen will be happy to pack you a snack for along the way. Explore the local villages with interesting craft shops, local markets and cafes.
Swimming Pool and Hot Tubs
Painter’s Lodge has an outdoor, heated swimming pool and hot tubs available for any guest of Painter’s Lodge or April Point Resort & Spa.
Painter’s Lodge features two tennis courts on the property, available for use by any guest. Tennis rackets and balls are available for free at the Guest Services desk.
All variety of excursions can be arranged through Guest Services, including transportation to and from the resort.
Quadra Island Artist Tours
Explore the vibrant arts scene on Quadra Island with year-round studio tours from Quadra Island Artists.
The Museum at Campbell River's permanent exhibits feature pioneer settlements, logging, float homes, salmon fishing and local First Nation's history. Watch "The Devil Beneath the Sea," a documentary video about the largest man-made non-nuclear detonation at nearby Ripple Rock.
Haig-Brown House Heritage Site is the beautifully preserved home of the region's most famous fly fisher, conservationist and author.
Hiking and Trails
Mt. Washington Alpine Resort stays open all summer long, taking hikers and trail riders to breathtakingly beautiful sights a mile above sea level.
Elk Falls Provincial Park, just outside of Campbell River, is named after an impressive 80-foot waterfall that plunges into the steep Campbell River canyon below. An extensive network of forest trails lead to a waterfall lookout and continues upstream.
Rebecca Spit Provincial Marine Park on Quadra Island stretches out along Drew Harbour and is a beautiful, easy stroll complete with sweeping mountain views. Horseback riding can be arranged by our crew, with various trails available catering to equestrians of all skill levels.
